History of The Deccan Odyssey Train (The Palace on Wheels):

The Deccan Odyssey Train is the joint venture of Indian Railway and MTDC (Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation). Indian railway has created a complete 5-star hotel on wheels (The Palace on Wheels), with two restaurants and a bar, a sauna, business centre and other such amenities on board, in collaborations with the famous Taj Group of hotels. It offers you the best services and comforts available presently on any luxury train all over the world. This Luxury Train Travel/Tour takes you to most fascinating tourist destinations of Maharashtra.

Commencing its journey from Mumbai, The Deccan Odyssey train travels to Sindhudurg – Goa – Kolhapur – Aurangabad (Ellora Caves) – Chandrapur (Tadoba Wildlife Sancturary)- Wardha (Sevagram)- Jalgaon(Ajanta caves) – Nashik and then back to aamachi Mumbai.

It is a seven days round trip starting on every Wednesday from Mumbai CST. The seasonal tours operate every year between October to April month.

This beautiful blue Limousine on rails is the discovery of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) promotes and maintains this train and the Indian Railways operates it between month of October-March. The train is a reference point against the world’s most luxurious trains like the Blue Train of South Africa, The Orient Express of Europe and Eastern and Oriental of South East Asia. The coaches of this train are constructed by the ICF (Integral Coach Factory) in May 2002. On January 16th, 2004 the Deccan Odyssey  train started its maiden journey from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) Mumbai.

Comfortable Coaches the Deccan Odyssey Train:

The train performs its journey mostly at night for passengers to relax and arrive fresh next morning at the next destination. The train has 21 coaches, out of which 13 are passenger cars accommodating 8 people per coach, 1 Conference Car, 2 Dinning Cars, 2 Generator Cars with Luggage Store, 1 Staff, spare Car, 1 Spa Car, 1 Bar Car. The train has on-board facilities like T.V., Channel Music, cell phones, Cable connection with central audio disc player, Foreign exchange facilities, etc. There is a personal assistant in each sleeper available around the clock.

Pure luxury of the Deccan Odyssey is a delight. All the train reflects the ways of Indian Royalty. Luxurious interiors & amazing sites make a memorable journey. The Deccan Odyssey Train Itinerary:

The Royal week long trip is through some of the best places in Maharashtra, namely Mumbai, Sindhudurg, Tarkarli, Goa, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Ellora caves, Chandrapur (Tadoba wildlife), Wardha (Sevagram), Ajanta caves and Nasik.

The itinerary of the tour is broadly as follows:

1st Day- Mumbai
2nd Day- Sindhudurg Nagari
3rd Day- Goa- Visit to St. Augustine Church, Basilica of Bom Jesus Church, Se Cathedral Church, St.Francis of Assissi a Museum of Goan antiques and visit to Fontanhas the Latin Quarters

at Panjim.
4th Day- Goa- Visit to Mhalsa and Mangeshi a Hindu Temples, Sahakari Spice Farm, Menezes Braganza House at Chandoli village.
5th Day- Kolhapur- New Palace, Museum, Bhavani Mandap Mahalaxmi Temple – Shalini Palace.
6th Day- Aurangabad-Daulatabad- Ellora Caves-Bibi-ka-Maqbara
7th Day- Ajanta Caves / Nasik
8th Day- Mumbai.
